Change in team

Unfortunately Sid Kotian has left the art team due to some personal engagements, but fikar nawt folks, artist Vivek Shinde (PROJECT: KALKI, SNAKEWOMAN, SPECIAL OFFICER SAWANT) has stepped in as my collaborator on Mumbai Confidential.

Vivek has already turned in some explorations which I’ll be posting soon-ish and I must say his take on the characters is really really kick-ass.

WOW! and some (other) random thoughts

Wow, I never though I’d get this kind of response when I put up this site. Mumbai Confidential is a creator owned project, so every bit of support helps. Currently we (Sid and I) are thinking about pitching it for publication both in India and the US. But we want definitely to keep our ownership of the project. So most probably we’ll try out Image Comics and other publishers open to that.

Also the India publication is a must. This books audience resides in India and as far as I’m concerned it shall be available in India from day one.

The plan for now is to create two versions of the book (same art) — an Indian Edition where the dialogue is a mix of Hindi and English (I tried that out in Mumbai Macguffin ( Virgin Comics 2008) and it came out well, I think) and an International Edition with English only dialogue.

Anyone can comment now

Okay, you don’t need to register/login to comment any more. I had put that restriction up to stop spam, but as usual it ended up as a hassle for honest users :(. Damn, security features are always a pain for honest people. Rot in hell, McColo.

But I’d still appreciate if you registered on this site.

Art Dump – 2

When I developed the concept of Mumbai Confidential three years back (This was before Vivek came on board) the most awesome Sid Kotian did some explorations of the concept. Sid signed off the project due to personal reasons/time constraints. Vivek came on board and redid the art from scratch in his own style. This post contains some of Sid’s earlier designs. Maintained here for archival’s sake. 🙂

Here are the inked pages for pages 1 and 2. Sid is not happy with Page 2 (Well looks more than okay to me 🙂 ), but anyways you be the judge.

Here is an art dump of the thumbnails of the first sequence and character concept for Sawant, the bad guy. Sid has done a good job in translating my jumbled notes into a real visual treat. The opening sequence is a shootout between Sawant and Kadam in Dharavi. It’s night and monsoons are lashing Mumabai 🙂 Our two dudes are at it shooting each other… why you ask? 😛 well check out the book when it comes out.

Mumbai Confidential website is online

Mumbai Confidential Logo (Small)Mumbai Confidential now has a home on the web. Finally I found some time to squeeze in a wordpress install and tweak a simple white theme to show the MC banner.

So first order of business, Welcome intrepid surfer. In case you are wondering, Mumbai Confidential is a crime noir comic book series created by writer Saurav Mohapatra (DEVI, SADHU, MUMBAI MACGUFFIN, INDIA AUTHENTIC, JIMMY ZHINGCHAK) and artist Siddharth Kotian (THE STRANDED, EAT THE DEAD, DEVI) set in (of course!) the Indian city of Mumbai.

The first installment of the Mumbai Confidential series is a 64 page one-shot titled GOOD COP, BAD COP and is about the Encounter Specialist cops of Mumbai Police, who were given the nod by the establishment to carry out extra-judicial killings of gangsters.
